ANKARA, iNews - At least 17 people were killed and 36 others injured in a bus accident carrying illegal immigrants in Turkey on Thursday, March 29, 2018. The bus hit a highway light pole in Igdir Kars Province and caught fire.
Among the victims were immigrants from Iran, Pakistan, and Afghanistan.
"When we arrived at the site, we found the immigrants crashing and regretfully smuggling illegal immigrants through our province, ending with a tragic accident," said Governor Igdir Enver Unlu, quoted by AFP on Friday (30/3/2018).
The local health officials said, among the wounded, there are conditions that are critical. They tried to save themselves by going out the window so that many were hit by broken glass. But the victims generally suffered burns.

The Igdir prosecutor's office is still investigating cases of accidents and smuggling these immigrants. It still identifies the bus driver who is considered a responsible party.
So far there are 13 immigrants arrested. They are on another bus. Allegedly they are a large group of immigrants who will enter Europe through Turkey.
